CIRE2<\/sup>N<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>As the need for a talent pipeline of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs increases \u00a0in the nano-scientific community; the CREST-Center for Innovation, Research, and Education in Environmental Nanotechnology (CIRE2<\/sup>N) is dedicated to the education of environmentally-conscious undergraduate and graduate students using the latest technology, discoveries, and educational material for a successful integration in the scientific workforce.\u00a0 The center is based in the University of Puerto Rico R\u00edo Piedras Campus and includes students from UPR-Mayaguez and Cayey as well as partnerships with UAGM.\u00a0 The efforts carried out in the lab by students and researchers are focused on the development of nanomaterials and devices to address environmental issues and education in environmental nanotechnology.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>![](\"http:\/\/www.cire2n.upr.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/about-us.png\" "\\"about-us\\"")

<\/i><\/i><\/span>PRIMARY OBJECTIVES<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>\nOne of the primary objectives of CIRE2N is to strengthen Hispanic STEM education through technical nanotechnology areas outlined in this proposal. \u00a0\u00a0The best practices will be implemented through the institution.\u00a0 \u00a0A citizen-based research initiative will be established and to help communities make informed decisions and establish public policies related to environment conservation practices and the use of environmental nanotechnology.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
<\/i><\/i><\/span>BROADER IMPACTS<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>\nEducation and Training in Environmental Nanotechnology: CIRE2<\/sup>N will support the professional development and training of undergraduate and graduate students, K-12 teachers, and faculty members in their respective research areas. CIRE2<\/sup>N will provide our undergraduate and graduate students with the necessary tools to develop successful STEM careers and information on progress; retention of students and other metrics and best practices will be shared amongst the Center partners through a collaborative network.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>OUR GOALS<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/i><\/i><\/span>1st Goal<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>\nStudy and understand the interactions that occur when nanomaterials are utilized for the remediation of water and soil,<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
